↓ START EDITFive typographic rules of the billion-view channels.
We studied the thousand most-viewed YouTube channels in 2025‑26 (MrBeast, Casey, Cellbit, Casimiro, etc.). Found five rules the best thumbnails share — regardless of niche.
Super-condensed type
Druk Heavy, Anton Black, Bungee — always uppercase, always left-aligned, always 8 to 12 characters. No serif. No italic.
Human face with expression
Open mouth, big eyes. Works in 9/10 niches. Exception: cinema/luxury (go aesthetic).
Single dominant color
One color invades 60% of the image. Red, yellow, fluorescent blue. Never pastels.
Arrow or circle
Point at what matters. Red. Hand-drawn, not perfect vector.
Brutal contrast
Everything is at three levels: very light, very dark, color. No mid-tones.
Four steps. Thirty seconds each.
Paste video link
YouTube, Vimeo, local file — doesn't matter. Reads title, description and first 30 seconds.
AI proposes 5 angles
Not just text. Composition, hierarchy, palette. Five distinct visual directions.
Pick and edit
Text, color, face position — all editable. Drag-and-drop, no timeline, no layers.
